Two Page Spread

A two page spread is when the image crosses over two pages. These are incredibly common in Picture Books.

It may seem overwhelming at first, but we can use our guidelines for medium images to get the job done!

Describe each image on its own. At the beginning of the second image description insert the phrase “This illustration is the continuation of the one before”

[First Image Alt-Text] A red wooden bridge curves over the water towards a village under a wide starry night sky with a shining crescent moon. In the sky across from the bridge one star shines bigger and brighter than the rest. On the bridge, there are dozens of people; some walking, some looking up at the sky. They all wear blue, brown, or purple robes, except for the young astronomer who stands in the middle of the bridge, and wears a long red robe. She has rosy cheeks and her long black hair is warped into a large bun at the back of her head. She leans against the railing of the bridge and rests her chin in one hand as she looks over the harbor up at the sky.

[Second Image Alt-Text] This illustration is the continuation of the one before. The bridge overlooks a large harbor where ships float by. Two ships sail in either direction with their orange sails open, and another ship sits at the shore of the village with its sails rolled down. The village is made up of multiple single storey buildings and tall leafless trees. The houses have yellow and blue steepled roofs and large windows and porches the length of the houses. Silhouettes of people sit in the yellow windows, or walk around the gray pebbled streets. The large star sits in the sky to the far right.

[First Image Alt-Text] A man looks up towards the sky with a smile, his right palm open and facing upwards. He is visible from the chest up. Light casts a shadow to the left over his face. He has a medium skin tone with long, black hair and brown eyes and brown eyes and wears a yellow buckskin robe with thick red squared lines and block patterns. A few feet behind him, a woman with a medium skin tone and long, black flowing hair stands facing away from the man with her head tilted up towards the sky and one arm held outwards with her palm facing the ground. She wears a blue and green striped robe. In the background, a green valley reaches towards a tall brown mountain at the horizon. Dark blue clouds fill the sky with rain, and a single flash of white lightning. Pale blue and yellow pictographs of thunderbirds are in the clouds.

[Second Image Alt-Text] This illustration is the continuation of the one before. The raises a hand upwards towards the sky. Behind him, there is a brown village complex that seems to be carved out of the ground. Behind the village there is a tall cliff. Above the cliff, there are brown clouds that mix with bigger, dark blue clouds covering a starry sky. A bolt of lightning shoots out from one side of the clouds. Inside the dark clouds, there is a yellow pictograph of a thunderbird, and a swirling gust of wind.
